CESC Budge Budge 1&2 coal mill grinding shortfall study and to advise of any operational adjustments to overcome RH temperature shortfall by analyzing current boiler performance data.
Kolkata, India (October 22, 2025) — CESE has awarded a contract to SMARTLùth for coal mill grinding shortfall study for double down shot boiler at Budge Budge Generating Station (Unit 1 and Unit 2). The plant capacity 2 × 250 MW PF Boilers, running with Indian Coal. Objectives are as below:
- To check the feasibility of employing 4 mills for full load generation at Units 1 & 2 at Budge Budge TPS by restoring the mills to its design capacity rated for the HGI.
- Check if the above can be achieved with Worst Coal having a GCV of 3850 kcal/kg, as fired basis at coal feeders.
- Identify why employing 4 mills to generate full load is not possible at present.
- Suggest if any change in operating parameters / procedures can enable sustained 4 mill operation subsequently, by taking the mills back to their design capacity at the rated fineness.
- Suggest means of increasing mill capacity by retrofitting in case changing operating parameters is not sufficient to meet the goal of full load at the rated/ design mill capacity.
- Study of existing boiler performance data to understand RH temperature shortfall and advise of any operational adjustments to mitigate if possible.
